Academic Heads Address

At Tarapore School, we nurture today's toddlers to grow into the future leaders of the society. Here we do not only teach them the letters and digits or language and literature, but we develop their moral outlook too. According to us, teaching is not just telling them about what is right or wrong, but guiding them to find their own answers, logically and critically.

Development is the term used to describe the changes in a child’s physical growth, as well as his ability to learn the social, emotional behaviour, thinking and communication skills he needs for his life. All of these areas are linked and each influences the others.

We always hear that we should have positive thinking. We should always be positive about everything, but here I am sharing some tips which will help us to avoid negative thinking.

Smile more often- It might be difficult to smile when we are unhappy, angry or depressed but if we force a smile, it does have an effect. If we look around, we always find reasons to smile. Sometimes we feel awkward smiling when we are not in the mood to smile, yet, we should force ourselves to smile in front of the mirror when we are alone. This will help us to relieve stress and change our mood.

Seek the company of positive people – If we are stuck in a negative mood, we should call up or meet a positive friend, who is usually full of energy, happy and positive. We should talk about anything we want, except our problems. We should be receptive to positively-oriented people, letting their mood and energy affect us.

Listen to music- We know that music is the best medicine for any disease and mood. So we should listen to music whenever we feel down and when our mind starts a spree of negative thinking. Romantic music, calm music, dance music or meditation music would help change how we feel, think and behave.

Abstain from speaking about problems- Speaking about the problems over and over again, eventually, develops the habit of staying negative most of the time. Nobody likes to listen to problems. If we keep doing so, people will avoid our company and this might lead to more unhappiness.Avoid repeating negative thoughts- We should avoid repeating the negative thoughts in our mind. When this happens, we could engage in some activity we like. This would help us divert our attention to other things, e.g. going for a walk, dance or gym, cooking, baking, etc

Don't act and behave like a victim- We should take charge of the situation instead of acting like a victim. We don't have to choose to be hurt, feel a lack of self-esteem or feel weak. We should stand up and assert ourselves.

Be nice to people- We should be nice and kind to people. We should greet the people we meet, and chat with them for a few moments. This would take away our negative thoughts for a few moments, and sometimes, for much longer. Acting kindly and being considerate will make people treat us in the same way, and this will lead to feeling good, happy, and therefore, becoming more positive.

Use words like 'cannot', 'impossible', and ‘difficult’ and similar words less often- We should be a little more aware of the words we use in our inner conversations and when speaking with people. We should avoid the use of words that express weakness, lack, and absence of self-esteem, as much as we can.

Watch a funny movie- Watching a funny movie diverts our mind from our problems and negative thoughts to something funny and entertaining. While watching a movie we should focus on it and enjoy it, letting go of anything that bothers us.

Read inspiring quotes- Reading inspiring quotes always change one's mood. Quotes inspire, motivate and broaden the mind. It would be a good idea to read a few quotes in the morning and in the evening, and even carry a few with us on a piece of paper or on our cellular phones.

I hope these few tips would help us, even if only to some extent, to stop negative thinking.

When we know how to stop negative thinking, we gain the power to scatter the clouds in our mind and bring back the sun and the blue sky into our life!
