Adding a personal touch to distant learning

Online classes at Tarapore School are organized and structured based on the needs identified at each level.

Timetables are made keeping both teachers and students in mind , factors considered are:
  • students with many siblings
  • only two to three hours a day
  • Gaps in-between to avoid too much of prolonged exposure to computers
  • Some classes are taken in the evening
  • All classes are for 45 minutes plus an additional 10 minutes are taken to start and finish the class.

Further to this,

  • Regular meetings take place in small groups to decide on issues

  • Parents and students are taught how to use technology properly. Several videos have been made by our teachers which explain how to download the Apps and use them.

  • relaxing and creative activities are provided for students, in addition to studies through the initiative ‘Lockdown Expressions’, which gives the students of Stds. III to VIII a particular task/craft to be done over the weekend, and to send a picture or video of the same by Monday. Good entries are identified and recognized with an e-certificate, as well as displayed on the Facebook page of our school.

  • videos made by the Tata Steel Sports Department are sent to provide inputs for sports and games.

In the younger classes,

  • Games like Simon says are used to make classes fun
  • Videos and youtube videos are sent to the children to help them learn
  • Mind games (recollecting the things shown in the PPT /images)during the classes ensure attentiveness.
  • The teachers use whiteboards / blackboards/ notebook pages/flash cards by turn, focusing their cameras on them as well as on their faces alternately.
  • Oral revision is done by asking each child by turn to speak.

In the older classes,
  • The teachers present videos through the online facility for better understanding. They have made PPts as well to ensure effective learning.

  • Students are asked to answer questions orally during the class.

  • .Crosswords have been created to assess one word answers

  • Teachers have made puppets to tell a story in Literature

  • Mock tests are taken in preparation for the online assessment

  • The teachers encourage students to find out information (research work)

  • Live objects like plants, flowers and any other available resources are shown to explain concepts

  • The teachers use word paint to solve sums, drawing mind maps and flowcharts

  • Oral skills are assessed by asking students to prepare a speech on a topic and record themselves saying it. This is sent to the teacher on a stipulated date.

Lockdown Expression

During the Pandemic time, to help students connect with their family members and also to hone their creative skills, Tarapore School started with the initiative ‘ Lockdown Expression.’ Every week a fun activity was designed which the students did during the weekend and sent. Students' work was posted on the school website, the Facebook page and the Instagram page. Students were also given e- certificates, which were designed specially keeping each week’s theme in mind.
